8TB 2.5 Inch SATA SSDs
Samsung 870 QVO 8TB SATA 2.5 SSD
Samsung PM893 7.68TB SATA 2.5 SSD
Two Samsung drives fill the 8TB class in the 2.5 inch SATA format here. The Samsung 870 QVO 8TB (MZ-77Q8T0B/AM) is a consumer drive with V-NAND, reading and writing at up to 560/530 MB/s, and Samsung covers it for 3 years. The Samsung PM893 7.68TB (MZ-7L37T600) is a data-centre drive with end-to-end data protection, rated up to 550/520 MB/s, with a 5 year warranty.
For a desktop, laptop or home NAS holding large game libraries, media or backups, the 870 QVO fits. Its QLC flash slows during very long sustained writes once its cache fills. For servers and workstations writing data around the clock, the PM893 is built for that duty. Both fit any standard 2.5 inch bay and SATA port.
Frequently asked questions
Will an 8TB SATA SSD work in a laptop? Yes, if the laptop has a 2.5 inch SATA bay. Many thin laptops only take M.2 drives.
Why is the PM893 7.68TB and not 8TB? Enterprise drives reserve extra flash as spare area for endurance, so the usable capacity is 7.68TB.
