WD 1TB NVMe Gen 5 SSD
WD Black SN8100 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD
WD Black SN8100 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD with Heatsink
Two versions of the same drive are here: the WD Black SN8100 1TB without heatsink (WDS100T1X0M-00CMT0) and the WD Black SN8100 1TB with Heatsink (WDS100T1XHM-00CMT0). Both are M.2 PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSDs rated up to 14900 MB/s read and 11000 MB/s write. WD covers them with a 5 year warranty.
The choice comes down to cooling. Pick the bare drive if the motherboard's M.2 slot has its own heatsink cover. Pick the heatsink version if the slot is uncovered. Full speed needs a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot, so check the motherboard manual for which slot is wired for Gen 5.
Frequently asked questions
Will the SN8100 work in a Gen 4 M.2 slot? Yes, it is backward compatible and runs at Gen 4 speeds in a Gen 4 slot.
Is there a speed difference between the two models? No, both carry the same rated speeds. The heatsink only helps hold them during long, heavy transfers.
