SanDisk

Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Milpitas, California, SanDisk is one of the best-known names in flash storage. Part of Western Digital from 2016, it became an independent company again in February 2025, listed on Nasdaq as SNDK, taking Western Digital's whole flash business with it — while Western Digital kept the hard disk drives. That makes SanDisk the maker of today's WD_BLACK and WD Blue NVMe SSDs, including the PCIe Gen 5 WD_BLACK SN8100, alongside SanDisk Extreme and SanDisk Professional portable SSDs, USB flash drives and memory cards. For PC builders, the categories that matter are internal NVMe M.2 SSDs for gaming and workstation builds and portable SSDs for backup and fast file transfer.
