Gigabyte X870E and X870 Motherboards

Gigabyte's AM5 boards on AMD's X870E and X870 chipsets run from the compact X870I AORUS PRO ICE Mini-ITX board to the E-ATX X870E AORUS XTREME AI TOP. Between them sit ATX boards such as the X870E AORUS MASTER, X870E AORUS PRO, X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 and X870 EAGLE WIFI7. Every board here takes AM5 Ryzen processors and DDR5 memory and has built-in Wi-Fi. The ATX and E-ATX models have four DIMM slots for up to 256 GB and three to five M.2 slots. The Mini-ITX board has two DIMM slots and two M.2 slots.

Both chipsets give you PCIe 5.0 for the graphics card and NVMe storage. X870E adds a second chipset for more PCIe lanes, USB ports and storage. That matters if you plan several SSDs, capture cards or other add-in cards. For one graphics card and two or three SSDs, an X870 board such as the AORUS ELITE WIFI7 or EAGLE WIFI7 is enough. Check the M.2 count before buying. The X870 GAMING X WIFI7 and EAGLE WIFI7 have three, while the X870E AORUS MASTER X3D ICE has five. The ICE versions come in a white finish for white builds, and the Mini-ITX X870I suits small cases.

Frequently asked questions

Which Ryzen processors work on these boards? All of them use the AM5 socket, so they take AM5 Ryzen desktop processors. Check the board's CPU support list for the BIOS version a particular chip needs.

Can I use DDR4 RAM on an X870 or X870E board? No. These boards support DDR5 memory only.

Do I need X870E for gaming? No. Gaming performance depends on the processor and graphics card. X870E only adds extra lanes and ports for heavily expanded builds.
