The Gigabyte AMD motherboards here cover three sockets. AM5 boards for DDR5 run from the X870E AORUS XTREME AI TOP and X870E AORUS MASTER through the X870 GAMING X WIFI7 and the B850 and B650 ranges down to the B840M D2H. AM4 boards for DDR4 include the B550M DS3H, B450M K and A520M K V2. The sTR5 TRX50 AI TOP and TRX50 AERO D take Ryzen Threadripper processors. Sizes run from Mini-ITX, such as the B850I AORUS PRO, to E-ATX.
Choose the socket first. Current Ryzen desktop processors need an AM5 board, while older Ryzen chips need AM4, and the two sockets and memory types do not mix. On AM5, X870E and X870 boards give both the graphics slot and M.2 storage PCIe 5.0. B850 adds PCIe 5.0 storage for mainstream gaming builds, and B650 still suits most AM5 systems. B840 is for basic builds and does not allow CPU overclocking. The DS3H and D2H models have no Wi-Fi. Each chipset has its own page, from the B650 Series to the X870E/X870 Series.
Frequently asked questions
Will a Gigabyte B650 board run the newer AM5 Ryzen processors? Yes, B650 boards use the AM5 socket, though a board with older firmware may need a BIOS update first.
What is the difference between X870 and B850? X870 boards have PCIe 5.0 for both graphics and storage as standard. B850 guarantees PCIe 5.0 only for storage.
Which Gigabyte board takes a Threadripper processor? The TRX50 AI TOP and TRX50 AERO D use the sTR5 socket. The AI TOP has eight DDR5 slots and the AERO D has four.
